The joining fee may only cover part of what you’ll spend. Before you sign up, find out which costs are compulsory and which depend on how you plan to work.
Check what you have to pay upfront
Ask for the total, including registration, a required kit and delivery. Free registration can still mean paying for a starter pack. If there’s an offer, check when it ends and who qualifies.
Use the current checkout price or ask the company for a written breakdown. Get the complete price before committing.
Include regular charges
Membership renewals, website subscriptions and other charges may be billed monthly or annually. Write down both the amount and when it’s due, especially if you have to pay for a year upfront.
Find out whether charges continue if you take a break, whether renewal is automatic and how to cancel. Check any activity rules too: keeping an account open may depend on placing an order.
Budget for the way you want to work
An optional website may be something you want to use every month. Attending events could mean stall fees and travel. Demonstrations may use up samples that you’ll need to replace. Choose the expenses that apply to your plans.
Find out when you pay and get paid
Do you have to pay for orders before customers pay you? Could a return or cancellation reduce commission you’ve already received? These questions help you work out how much money you may need available between payments.
Get answers before committing
Ask for the fee schedule, cancellation terms and order process. You don’t need to guess at a missing cost. Keep a note of it and ask the company to explain.
